& News

Derbyshire have signed batter, Matt Montgomery, on a three-year contract, to start from the end of the 2025 season.

Montgomery, 25, has scored more than 3,000 all-format runs in his career, with two first-class centuries and a List A average of 41.81. He’s also an effective all-rounder in T20 cricket, having claimed 15 wickets for Notts Outlaws in the 2025 Vitality Blast, at an average of 18.06.

He will link-up with the Falcons on-loan for the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, before joining permanently upon the conclusion of the 2025 campaign.

A promotion winner with Nottinghamshire in 2022, Montgomery made his international debut for Germany the following year, playing against Wayne Madsen’s Italy.

With overseas batter, Caleb Jewell, having already re-signed with Derbyshire for the 2026 season, Montgomery becomes the squad’s first new addition for next summer.

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “Matt has chosen to join our project at Derbyshire and we’re delighted to welcome him to the Club.

“He’s a batter with real ability in all formats, and he will get the opportunity to show what he can do. His bowling will also be a real asset for us in T20 cricket.”

Montgomery added: “I’m excited to work with Mickey and join a group that is moving in the right direction.

I look forward to taking this next step in my career and hope I can contribute to Derbyshire’s success across all formats.”
