Over the winter, multiple Derbyshire players will be representing various clubs across the globe. Some individuals have already started their winter campaigns, and we will take a look at how they are doing so far.
Sam Conners
The Derbyshire seam bowler will be spending the winter period over in New Zealand, playing for Napier Old Boys Marist Cricket Club.
Conners’ side have played two fixtures so far, but they have unfortunately been unable to register their first win of the season.
In the seamer’s first game, he claimed 2 for 55 with the ball, before a valiant effort with the bat. Conners top-scored for his side, making an unbeaten 76 off 81 balls, at number seven, as Napier Old Boys fell short in the chase, losing by 19 runs.
In their latest game, the Napier Old Boys had a day to forget with the bat, being bowled out for just 58. Conners returned good figures, 3 for 28, as his side looked for an unlikely victory, but it was not to be as a six-wicket victory ensued for the opposition.
Harry Came and Mitch Wagstaff
Derbyshire batters Harry Came and Mitch Wagstaff are due to start their overseas campaigns in the coming weeks, in South Africa and Australia respectively.
Came will be playing for Claremont Cricket Club, who he represented last winter as well, and Wagstaff will be hoping to score plenty of runs for Rockingham Mandurah District Cricket Club.
Sarah Glenn and Bess Heath
Derbyshire-born duo Glenn and Heath were both selected by Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia. The Heat are sitting pretty at the moment, occupying top spot of the table having won both of their matches so far.
Heat won their first game against Melbourne Renegades, in a tight encounter, by six runs. Heath struck a quick 19 off 9 balls, before Glenn returned brilliant figures of 4 for 23 off her four allocated overs.
In their second match, Brisbane Heat and Australian batter Grace Harris smashed a new Women’s Big Bash League score of 136 not out off 59 balls. This knock included Harris hitting a six with a broken bat, with the clip going viral on social media over the weekend.
Bess Heath added another useful cameo with the bat, 16 off 11 balls, before Glenn went wicketless off her three overs in the field.
