Alex Hughes reacts to the Falcons’ seven-wicket NatWest T20 Blast defeat against Notts Outlaws at The 3aaa County Ground on Friday night.
Left-arm paceman Harry Gurney returned career-best figures of 4-20 as the Falcons were dismissed for 114, with Chesney Hughes top scoring with 26.
The Outlaws reached their victory target with 5.3 overs to spare with Dan Christian hitting 38 not out and opener Riki Wessels unbeaten on 35.
Alex Hughes said: “Again we weren’t good enough in the batting powerplay, three or four down again for the third or fourth game in a row and you’re not winning many games from that position.
“We’ve got to be a lot better up top otherwise we are not going to win enough games. Andre Russell opened with a fiery spell and the pitch wasn’t great to play shots on and it’s tough batting when you don’t know what a really good score is.
“That’s maybe something we’ve got to reassess when we see wickets like that because every home game we’ve played has been similar to that wicket where it’s tough to score when the bowlers get it in the right area.
“We’ve done well to claw a couple of games back but we can’t keep relying on the middle and lower order and then our bowlers to pull it out of the bag and do something special. We need to get big scores up front to give out bowlers a chance of defending them.”
