Derbyshire batter, Mitch Wagstaff, has signed a new one-year deal with the Club.
A Cricket Derbyshire Academy graduate, Wagstaff made his Derbyshire debut in 2021, featuring in five List A fixtures, while his first-class debut came against Gloucestershire in May of this year.
The 20-year-old scored a match-winning run-a-ball century for the Second XI against Nottinghamshire in July, following that up with a maiden first-class half-century against Yorkshire at Scarborough in September.
The young left-hander also took his first two Derbyshire wickets against Yorkshire, becoming the first Derbyshire player in history to take two dismissals in his first over in the format, while he ended the campaign with a 78 against Glamorgan, which included 12 fours and one six.
Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “Mitch has shown real improvement during his time within the first team setup and is starting to build on the promise we believe he has.
“We want local youngsters to be coming into the first team, it’s important for this Club to produce its own players, so for Mitch to be staying is a big step forward.”
Wagstaff added: “I’ve developed a lot during my first year as a professional and now I have the opportunity to kick on and push for selection.
“It’s a big time in my career, and we have so many good players who I can really learn from and that will only help in my journey.”
