Chief Executive, Simon Storey, shares the disappointment following the abandoned NatWest T20 Blast fixture versus Northants Steelbacks at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.

Storey said: “The groundstaff have been working on the ground for the last few days and from very early this morning in an attempt to get it fit for play.

“The blotter had been working overtime to clear surface water which we were able to do successfully in the morning to give the outfield a chance to dry out.

“We’ve had some bad weather in the area over the last few weeks and, even after the umpires inspected at midday, there was a hope that the outfield would dry enough.

“Unfortunately, even after today’s warm breeze and sunshine, certain areas of the outfield were so waterlogged that the umpires really had no choice but to call it off in the interests of player safety.

“Chesterfield is a special venue for cricket and everyone is disappointed that we were not able to go ahead. I would like to thank everyone who travelled today and remind them that all tickets purchased for the fixture can be reused for another fixture or a full refund can be claimed.

“The groundstaff will continue to do everything in their control to work on the outfield over the next 24 hours to prepare it for the start of the four-day fixture versus Northamptonshire on Monday.”
