Wood doubles up on Day Two

An unbeaten double ton from Tom Wood helped Derbyshire post 476-4 declared on Day Two the Second XI Championship match against Worcestershire at The 3aaa County Ground. 

Prior to a fruitful day one, in which Wood and Alex Hughes (118) made centuries, Derbyshire continued at the crease as they set about posting a declaration total.

Charlie MacDonnell, who is on trial, hit 63 off 68 balls and shared a fourth-wicket partnership of 109 with Wood, who began the second day unbeaten on 186.

The Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduate reached his double century off 330 balls, including 19 fours and three sixes, to finish 200 not out as the hosts declared on 476-4.

Derbyshire claimed a couple of early scalps through Andy Carter (2-30) and Greg Cork (1-51), but a partnership of 189 between Alexei Kervezee (140) and Alex Hepburn (83) signalled a decent recovery for the visitors, on 264-2.

The hosts got the breakthrough they desired when Carter took the wicket of Kervezee and then just five overs later Alex Hughes (1-40) bowled Hepburn, with the Pears on 280-4.

Shortly after Josh Dell (15) was dismissed by Wes Durston (1-76), before Parkinson (2-93) came to the fore taking two quick wickets. First, Zen Ul-Abidenn Malik (5) was trapped LBW and two overs later Ben Twohig (8) was caught by Scott Elstone.

The visitors declared on 369-7, trailing by 107 runs, as the two teams attempted to set up a final day result.

Derbyshire started their second innings, with Durston (17) and Jonathan Tattersall (5) at the crease leading into day three at 22-0, a lead of 129.
