Blast Off: 100 Days to Go

There’s just 100 days to go until the Blast Off double-header at Edgbaston on Saturday 1 June. 

The Falcons will face Leicestershire Foxes at the home of Finals Day, before Birmingham Bears face Notts Outlaws, as Edgbaston plays host to two blockbuster Vitality Blast fixtures early in the competition.

Mickey Arthur has added six new recruits, five of which are Blast winners, as the side aim to get their hands on the trophy in 2024.

Blast Off – designed to book-end the Vitality Blast with Finals Day – was a hit with supporters in 2023 and the Falcons are involved again this summer. With a significant increase on ticket sales and demand compared to last year, secure your Blast Off tickets now while prices are the cheapest.

The inaugural Blast Off, held in 2023, was a huge success and was even recognised at the Business of Cricket Awards, and this year’s edition is set to be even bigger, as the Vitality Blast returns for a huge summer of T20 action.

2024 Derbyshire Members and Blast Pass holders have been contacted with details of how to claim their FREE Blast Off ticket and complimentary coach travel will be offered, with full transport details to be confirmed in due course.

International stars on show

World-renowned seamer, Mohammad Amir, will be on show at Edgbaston for the Falcons, having claimed over 300 T20 wickets in his career. The former IT20 World Cup winner will look to spearhead the bowling attack, which contains plenty of skill and firepower to bamboozle batters.

Fellow Pakistan seamer, Hassan Ali, will be in action for the Bears and they face an Outlaws side that contains New Zealand batter, Will Young, fresh off the back of a hundred for Central Stags in the New Zealand Super Smash.

The Foxes have a duo of highly-experienced and skilled batters in Australian Peter Handscomb and South African Wiaan Mulder. Both right-handers featured against the Falcons last T20 campaign, as Derbyshire inflicted impressive victories and they will be hoping to do the same in front of a big crowd at Edgbaston this season.

Six new players have been added to the Derbyshire squad ahead of the 2024 season, with T20 powerhouses Mohammad Amir, Samit Patel, Pat Brown and Ross Whiteley among those aiming to fire the Falcons to glory.

Mickey Arthur’s side already boast the likes of Wayne Madsen, who last year equalled the world record for consecutive T20 scores of 50 or more, and Zak Chappell, who was among the leading wicket-takers in last season’s Vitality Blast, as they target a return to the knockout stages.
