A battling second-innings performance, including a Billy Godleman century and six wickets shared between the bowlers, was not enough to stop Derbyshire going down by four wickets to Glamorgan.
Godleman scored his second century of the campaign, shortly before going to 6,000 career first-class runs, during a century stand with Matt Critchley (70 not out) that helped Derbyshire score 536 in their second innings to set their hosts 196 to win in two sessions.
Despite a period where four wickets fell in relatively quick succession, in addition to two further wickets some time later, Glamorgan were able to get to their target with four wickets to spare thanks in no small part to Jacques Rudolph who scored an unbeaten half-century.
Having begun the day on 414-6, with a lead of 72, overnight pair Godleman and Critchley maneuvered the early overs well to continue to accumulate a valuable partnership that would extend into three figures.
Captain Godleman marginally led the scoring during the seventh-wicket stand, and reached his second century of the Specsavers County Championship season from just 149 balls, having hit 11 fours and a solitary six.
When he got to 103, Godleman reached 6,000 first-class runs for his career, but was out for 106 to end a battling partnership worth 113 with Critchley who had scored his first half-century of the season from 89 balls.
Tony Palladino (7) and Will Davis (0) fell cheaply before last man in Ben Cotton offered a degree of resistence to score 12 before becoming the final man out, as Derbyshire were bowled out for 536 – their highest-ever total against this opposition. Critchley was left stranded on 70 not out.
In pursuit of 196 to win, Glamorgan openers James Selman and Mark Wallace made a good start, putting on a half-century partnership, but the latter was out for 26 when Shiv Thakor made the breakthrough in his first over.
Will Bragg could only add seven before he was cleaned up by Tony Palladino but Wallace had remained defiant in the face of a number of close-calls until, on 40, he was caught at square-leg off Wayne Madsen in the final over before tea, which Glamorgan took on 84-3.
First innings double-centurion Aneurin Donald could not repeat his heroics for the Welsh county as he was caught off the bowling of Will Davis in the first over after the tea interval as the hosts slipped from 56-0 to 85-4 to give Derbyshire a sniff.
David Lloyd joined his skipper, Rudolph, and the pair put together a partnership worth 69 that would ultimately take the game away from Derbyshire. Lloyd was eventually out lbw to Madsen for 30.
Graham Wagg replaced him but only made one before edging to Madsen at slip off Critchley, but Craig Meschede (36 not out) came in with the intention of getting his side over the line quickly, and did so, as Glamorgan secured a four-wicket victory. Rudolph, meanwhile, was unbeaten on a vital 51 at the conclusion of the match.
