In our latest recap of Derbyshire Abroad, we cover the eight players currently abroad or involved in cricket overseas, as the majority of the players complete their overseas stints and head back to Derbyshire.
Mohammad Amir
Amir’s Quetta Gladiators currently sit second in the Pakistan Super League table and look set to secure qualification to the knockout stages of the tournament.
With the addition of Amir’s experience to the Gladiators’ bowling line-up, the side have turned their PSL fortunes around after missing out on the playoffs for four successive seasons now.
He has also contributed handy runs with the bat, seeing his side over the line with an unbeaten 11 off 6 balls to seal victory over Islamabad United.
The left-armer has four wickets in four matches so far, after Sunday’s scheduled game was abandoned due to rain.
Pat Brown
Right-arm fast bowler Brown secured his second white ball trophy with Adelaide club side West Torrens as they triumphed in the West End One-Day Cup over Glenelg, the same team they had T20 trophy success over a couple of weeks ago.
Brown claimed one wicket as the opposition were restricted to 211, before West Torrens wrapped up victory by six wickets.
Brown also claimed figures of 14-2-28-2 in the West End First Grade competition as the batters completed the job this weekend. This victory leaves the side in second placed and handily positioned for the end of season conclusion as they aim to win all three trophies available.
Harry Came
Claremont claimed two victories over the last fortnight with opener Came making valuable contributions in both games.
The right-hander was unbeaten on 41 as Claremont chased 80 for the loss of three wickets, Came hitting a six to seal the victory.
A week later, he fell short of his half-century, posting 48 as his side claimed victory by 18 runs.
Came finishes his club stint having scored 400 runs in 11 matches, at an average of 44.4.
Aneurin Donald
75 % of the runs Donald scored for Rondebosch came in boundaries, as the destructive batter smashed 15 fours and 16 sixes in nine games in South Africa.
Donald’s recent scores were 12 off 17 balls at the top of the order, before batting at four where he scored 15 off 7 balls, including two sixes in an abandoned fixture against Milnerton CC.
Wayne Madsen
Italy’s Wayne Madsen had a tournament to remember as he registered his first centuries for the country in a recent World Cup qualifying event.
His maiden century came off 88 balls, whereas his most recent was more destructive, coming off just 64 deliveries.
The side sealed qualification for July’s qualifiers with victory over Vanuatu on Sunday, as the Italian side aim to qualify for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Madsen finished the tournament with 300 runs at an average of 50.
Samit Patel
Patel’s Bangladesh Premier League side Sylhet Strikers failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition as Fortune Barishal claimed the trophy in the final last Friday.
Derbyshire’s white ball captain had an outstanding tournament in a side that failed to deliver with the bat and also match his performances with the ball.
The left-arm spinner claimed 10 wickets across the tournament at an average of 16.4 and a strike-rate of 21.
More impressive was his economy rate across the tournament, which was just 4.68. This left him with the best economy rate of all bowlers in the BPL to have played more than five matches.
In terms of players who had bowled the similar number of overs to Patel (35 in the tournament), the next lowest economy rate of any player was Nahidul Islam, who conceded runs at 6.24 an over – 1.56 more runs per over than Patel.
Blair Tickner
The most recent Derbyshire recruit registered his career-best high score with the bat, 42, for New Zealand side Central Districts.
During his innings, Tickner was struck on the head by a vicious bouncer, which later in the game forced him to be replaced by a concussion substitute.
Fortunately all is well and the New Zealand fast bowler has been cleared to play in his next fixture.
He is due to play three more first-class fixtures before his arrival at Derbyshire in April.
Mitch Wagstaff
Wagstaff’s last match for Rockingham Mandurah Cricket Club in Western Australia Grade Cricket saw the young batting all-rounder score 12 off 26 balls and record bowling figures of 11-2-33-0 against Joondalup.
Wagstaff, like all the others, will head back to Derbyshire before the squad embark on the pre-season trip to Desert Springs.
