All-rounder, Ross Whiteley, will captain Derbyshire during the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
Whiteley, a product of the Derbyshire pathway, will lead the side during the 50-over competition, with his first game in charge coming against Northamptonshire Steelbacks this Wednesday (11am).
Whiteley will be able to call on an experienced leadership core throughout the One-Day Cup, with Samit Patel, David Lloyd and Brooke Guest, who captained the side in last year’s competition, all set to feature.
With four domestic white-ball titles to his name, Whiteley knows what it takes to compete for silverware, and he will be hoping to lead Derbyshire to the knockout stages.
Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said: “Ross has shown his leadership qualities throughout the season and I’m looking forward to seeing how he captains our 50-over side this summer.
“He’s a proven winner, and it’s great for us to be able to call upon the experience of senior players, such as Samit and David, who can all help our younger players through the competition.
“This is a chance for us to challenge for silverware, we want to be playing on the big stage and pushing for knockout fixtures, and I know our squad will be giving everything they’ve got to do just that.”
Whiteley added: “It’s always an honour to be asked to captain a side, but to be leading my boyhood club.
“We have a great squad available for this competition and we will be working hard to win every game and hopefully lift a trophy at the end of the season.”
