Wright Cup: Alfreton CC 2nd XI (170-6) beat Sawley CC 2nd XI (151-4) by 19 runs

The first match on Thursday saw Alfreton 2nd XI lift the Wright Cup. Openers James Fletcher (49) and Tom Pawelski (42) backed up the decision to bat first, adding 81 for the first wicket in just 8.2 overs.

Ryan Newton (33) also made a meaningful contribution as the side posted a target of 171.

In reply, Sawley lost two wickets in the powerplay and reached 63-3 at the halfway stage.

Danny Brown (50) and Richard Lawton (48*) tried their best to wrestle back some momentum in the game, but unfortunately for Sawley they fell 19 runs short.

Bayley Cup: Denby CC 2nd XI (176-6) beat Derby Congs 1st XI (172-6) by four wickets

Denby’s Fraser Kirk starred with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 70 off 37 balls to carry his side to a brilliant victory.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Derby Congs posted a competitive total of 172-6, including contributions from Mohammed Waseem Snr (47) and Amarjit Singh (43*).

Denby found themselves 58-4 after the eighth over as Congs bowler Muhammad Fazal (3-25) did the damage early on.

But number six batter Kirk produced a remarkable innings to dig his side out of trouble, hitting three fours in the penultimate over to seal victory.

Butterley Cup: Derby Congs CC 1st XI (151-6) beat Tutbury CC 1st XI (129-5) by 22 runs

Derby Congs exacted claimed the Butterley Cup after their 2nd XI were defeated the previous day.

Mohammed Waseem Snr starred with the bat, and the ball for Derby Congs, blasting 622 off 45 balls. Both George Morgan (2-24) and Ben Halliday (2-32) claimed two wickets apiece, but they couldn’t prevent Derby Congs from posting a challenging total.

Waseem Snr (2-21) led with the ball for Derby Congs as only Muhammad Saad (30) scored anything of note.

Jackson Cup: Marehay CC 1st XI (163-3) beat Ockbrook & Borrowash CC 1st XI (162-7)

Marehay CC won an thrilling encounter to wrap up the DCCL Finals, beating Ockbrook & Borrowash CC by one run.

A game fitting of a final, Marehay’s Regan Birks held his nerve to defend four off the last ball, after a cameo from Jacob Conners (26 off 11) seemed to have secured the title for Ockbrook.

Marehay were asked to bat first and openers Lewis Palmer (40) and Ethan Debono (62) added 76 of the first wicket in quick time.

Debono fell to Charlie Birch-Mann (2-33) just before the halfway stage and the momentum continued as Rob Heath (31) and James Kye (25*), who scored 18 runs off the final five deliveries, helped Marehay past 160.

Ad Gagiano (39) set the tone at the top for Ockbrook & Borrowash and when he was out with the score 104-2, the match seemed finely poised.

But Ben Perry-Taylor changed the context of the match with two wickets in three balls, removing Mykylo Bird (53) and Josh Lacey (16) to swing the game back in Marehay’s favour.

A couple more Ockbrook wickets fell as Marehay looked to be heading comfortably to the title, but 17 runs off the penultimate set left 13 needed off the last five, steep but not impossible.

Conners hit the third delivery for six to bring the equation down to six off two balls, but right-arm seamer Birks delivered to send his team into raptures as they sealed victory on the final ball.
