Greg Cork took eight wickets in the match, but Leicestershire Second XI claimed victory by 148 runs in the three-day friendly at Desborough Cricket Club.

The left-arm paceman took four wickets in each innings, but a defiant 88-run knock form Leicestershire captain Lewis Hill in the second innings left the visitors 301 behind on the final day.

The host’s batting display was followed by an all-round bowling performance after Leicestershire’s three seamers took seven wickets between them, together with three for spinner George Dockrell, to dismiss Derbyshire for 153.

Leicestershire started day three on 120-5 and added 52 runs before declaring for the second time in the match, on 172-9. Greg Cork struck trice to dismiss George Dockrell (5), James Sykes (7) and Hill. The captain was the last wicket to fall for the visitors.

Derbyshire suffered an early set-back when they lost both opening batsmen for no runs. Ben Raine (3-24) bowled Jordan Clarke (0) in the first over, before Gavin Griffiths (3-38) had Sam Kershaw (0) caught in the very next over.

Chris Whittock and Ben Slawinski spearheaded a recovery with a 56-run partnership before visitors suffered a middle-order collapse, losing five wickets for 38 runs.

Dockrell was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 16 runs, when the left-arm spinner dismissed Cork (25), David Hussain (2) and Ben Cotton (0), leaving Derbyshire on 101-8.

S Hunt (29*) and Robert Peat (10) provided some respite, but the visitors never fully recovered from the early lose of wickets and were eventually bowled out for 153.
