Derbyshire Abroad update

Monday 16th December 2024
& News

Over the past few months, members of the Derbyshire squad and coaching staff have been playing in various parts of the globe. Here, we catch up to see how everyone has been getting on so far.

Mickey Arthur, Zak Chappell & Wayne Madsen

The Derbyshire trio were all part of the victorious Rangpur Riders franchise in the inaugural Global Super League two weeks ago.

The Bangladesh-based team defeated Victoria in the final in Guyana after a remarkable tournament turnaround, having lost their two opening fixtures.

Chappell impressed with the ball, claiming seven wickets across the tournament, including a maiden T20 five-wicket haul – his best ever figures of 5 for 23.

Selection and success was well deserved for Chappell and Madsen, after impressing in the Vitality Blast over the last few seasons.

Pat Brown & Harry Moore

Derbyshire fast bowlers Brown and Moore have been part of the England Lions squad over the past few weeks in South Africa, with the tour concluding with a fixture against the SA Invitational XI.

Working with a coaching staff setup containing Freddie Flintoff and Dale Steyn, the camp provided valuable experience and knowledge from former great international fast bowlers.

Brown was the pick of the England bowlers, returning figures of 4 for 44, while Moore bowled five wicketless overs, however both bowlers deserved better rewards from their spells.

Caleb Jewell

The left-handed batter will be hoping to impress Derbyshire supporters before heading over to England next summer.

Australian Club Cricket

Four members of the Derbyshire squad are currently in Australia, playing club cricket Down Under.

Luis Reece is captain and Head Coach at Gosnells Cricket Club, a club he has played for multiple times in the past. He has claimed 17 wickets at an average of 20.82, as well as a high score of 82 with the bat.

New permanent signing Jack Morley is playing at Mont Albert Cricket Club, based in North Victoria. So far, Morley has 16 wickets at an average of 17.94. With the bat, he has contributed useful runs, with a high score of 50.

Playing for Glenorchy Cricket Club, Nick Potts has been utilised as a batter, as his recovery from injury has limited his opportunity to bowl. Opening the batting, Potts top scored with 78 is his best innings of the season.

In New South Wales, Mitch Wagstaff has only played three matches for Sutherland Cricket Club so far due to a finger issue sustained while playing. Wagstaff should be back in the New Year, where he will be hoping to impress with bat and ball.
