New signing Gary Wilson believes that Derbyshire’s new coaching model will provide the platform for prosperity next season.
The Ireland wicket-keeper, who joins the Club from Surrey after signing a three-year contract, says that the decision to implement a completely new structure in 2017, headed up by Kim Barnett, can only be successful for the Club moving forward.
The model will see the introduction four new roles, including a specialist T20 coach, with Billy Godleman taking on more responsibility when captaining the side in the Specsavers County Championship and the Royal London One Day Cup.
“It’s a great plan and hopefully one that will come to fruition,” says Wilson.
“It’s going to be a lot of responsibility on the players and the captain in the model but it’s definitely a model I feel very comfortable with – players have to take responsibility themselves.
“I can’t wait to get started – with the facilities here and hopefully the coaching structures in a place and working alongside the players, I’m really looking forward to it.”
Wilson added: “I know how challenging being the Captain of a first-class county can be from my time at Surrey and I have known Billy for a long time. I am looking forward to working together with him again as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time getting to know him over the years.”
