Derbyshire County Cricket Club is proud to announce it has been awarded the prestigious ECOsmart Gold Award, recognising the Club’s ongoing commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices at The Central Co-op County Ground.
The journey began in 2023, when the Club was first recognised at Silver level. Since then, Derbyshire has introduced a wide range of environmentally conscious initiatives to achieve Gold status. These include enhanced recycling programmes, carbon-free team-building activities, a formal Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, the creation of a wildflower garden, the implementation of a Club-wide sustainability mission statement and certified training for staff to embed green thinking into everyday operations.
ECOsmart is the independent accreditation for organisations that actively demonstrate environmental responsibility, and achieving Gold reflects the significant progress made across all areas of the Club – from energy efficiency and waste reduction to sustainable procurement and community partnerships.
This recognition places Derbyshire among a leading group of UK venues driving change through action, not just ambition. The Club continues to work closely with partners, suppliers and the local community to set new standards in sustainable sport and events.
With this milestone, Derbyshire County Cricket Club reaffirms its long-term vision: to deliver cricket and entertainment experiences that not only engage and excite but also help protect our planet for future generations.
