VIDEO: Barnett on Broom departure

Kim Barnett says that Billy Godleman and his management team will be looking at its options following Neil Broom’s decision to leave Derbyshire to pursue a return to international cricket.

The Club agreed to release Broom, who had a year left on his contract, with immediate effect in December after successful negotiations with his representatives in New Zealand.

Broom, who joined Derbyshire in 2016, appeared in 14 first-class fixtures for the county scoring 530 runs at an average of 25.

Barnett says that the Club will continue to look at options in Broom’s absence, but the decision will be made by Captain Godleman and his senior team.

He said: “It’s going to be thrown to Billy to work on how he sees it moving forward. He will see how everyone fits in and how the young guys fit in too.

“We have players, like Shiv, who we feel can also bat higher in the order, and there’s also loan players in the summer, so there’s lots of things to take on board.

“It’s not an easy decision, but it’s one for Billy who will come back to me with how he sees it and we’ll take it from there.”
