Derbyshire will prepare for the new season by training inside the Briggs of Burton Pre-Season Marquee, a specially designed marquee with ClearLight panels to create the optimum conditions for pre-season training in the UK.
The squad will remain at The 3aaa County Ground this pre-season and train on pitches within the purpose-built structure from February to the start of April.
The marquee, sponsored by stainless steel specialists and long-standing Club partners Briggs of Burton, will measure 750m².
It has been specially developed to feature innovative ClearLight panels to allow in as much natural light as possible for the players, while also promoting healthy grass growth during the winter months.
The innovative approach to pre-season will allow the squad to prepare for the 2017 season within English conditions and on familiar pitches which will be used throughout the summer.
Director of Cricket, Kim Barnett said: “With more cricket than ever earlier in the year, and with the 50-over competition taking place in April and May, we felt it was important that the guys prepare in the right conditions.
“It means that there will be no pre-season tour, but we have decided instead to invest in a specially developed marquee and we think this is the right approach this year. We want to make sure we give the guys the best opportunity to be ready and start the season well.
“Using a marquee and preparing outdoors here in England has been tried and tested by a number of counties.
“The Briggs of Burton Pre-Season Marquee will be up for nine weeks and the ClearLight panels will help us train on our own pitches in familiar conditions in the lead up to the new campaign.”
