Derbyshire County Cricket Club has recorded a surplus of £2,653 for the financial year ending December 2016, the Club’s sixth successive year of surplus.
The sixth year of surplus in a row signifies the Club’s continued progress and the significant turnaround since Chris Grant’s election as Chairman in 2011 on the back of a £187,037 loss.
The Club recorded, for a third successive year, a record turnover in 2016 which was largely driven by a significant increase in commercial income.
The increase has allowed the Club to once again increase its cricket budget, while also improving facilities for Members, supporters and media partners at The 3aaa County Ground.
The Club finished its next phase of ground development which included the completion, on-time and on-budget, of a new £2.2million OKI Business & Media Centre which was influential in the city’s bid for Derby to be a major broadcast venue at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.
Chairman, Chris Grant said: “I’m extremely proud to have overseen six successive years of surplus and grown turnover to record levels since being elected in 2011.
“This has been a tremendous achievement given the huge challenge that keeping a first-class county afloat entails and is an enviable track record.
“The increased revenue has allowed us to continue our commitment to increasing the cricket budget, while also investing in improving the ground.
“It is also no exaggeration to say that The 3aaa County Ground is unrecognisable from what it used to be as a result of a £4million ground development programme, which will see the Club host the opening fixture of this year’s ICC Women’s World Cup and Sir Elton John in concert.
“I would like to extend a big thank you to our Members, supporters and 1870 Business Club partners for your continued support.”
Chief Executive, Simon Storey added: “A sixth successive year of surplus is a testament to the hard work of our off-field team to keep us in the black year after year. We are always balancing investment, growth and our ambition to deliver a sustainable long term business.
“We continue to move in the right direction, but it is important that we build on this as we look to continue to increase our investment on the field further.
“We have a packed schedule of cricket and non-cricket events in 2017, including the ICC Women’s World Cup, Elton John performing in June and our second annual Fireworks Night & Fun Fair event in November, in what will be a special year for the city.”
