Ian Morgan OBE says it’s a tremendous privilege to be appointed Chairman of Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

Morgan, who was awarded an OBE in 2015 for services to business in the East Midlands, was confirmed as Chairman at the Annual General Meeting  after the six members of the Club’s Supervisory Board were formally elected, all standing unopposed.

Morgan is Deputy Chairman of the Wellglade Group, who operates Trent Barton Buses, and is a Board member and Business Representative of D2N2, the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). He has also served as President and Board member of the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the University of Derby Invest to Grow panel.

Commenting on his appointment, Morgan said: “It feels fantastic, I am really looking forward to it. It is a huge honour and a tremendous privilege.

“I’ve been coming down here to watch cricket for quite a few years and have been a Member for the last seven years.

“We are in a really good place at the moment. The Club is in a very stable position financially and there has been an enormous amount of investment in the ground and facilities.

“We have made some really great signings during the closed season so there is no reason why we shouldn’t kick on and start producing the goods on the field.”
