Lancashire’s spin bowling duo of England Test man Simon Kerrigan and off-break Arron Lilley produced devastating spells to defeat Derbyshire by an innings and 14 runs at Southport and Birkdale CC.
Having started the day on 123-3, Derbyshire succumbed to the spin-friendly conditions and could only add 43 runs before being bowled out for 166.
South African Kolpak duo Alviro Petersen and Ashwell Prince did the damage in the first innings, scoring 113 and 230 respectively before Lilley took his maiden first-class five-wicket haul and Kerrigan claimed 4-80 on the final day.
Night Watchman Tom Taylor was the first man to fall to Lilley – bowled for five – before the same man had Scott Elstone caught sweeping off his bowling without scoring.
Kerrigan then had his first two victims of the day when he got one to keep low and bowl Hashim Amla for 11 and then Shiv Thakor edged him to Petersen in the slips for two.
David Wainwright scored 10 before he was caught behind by keeper Alex Davies off Lilley whereas Harvey Hosein was castled by Kerrigan for five.
The last man in was Mark Footitt and he did not last long before he was bowled to hand Lilley impressive figures of 5-23 and Lancashire victory by an innings and 14 runs.
