Ben Slater hit 45 and Wayne Madsen was unbeaten on 24 as Derbyshire closed a rain-affected first day versus Gloucestershire at Bristol on 104-2.
A damp and gloomy start at The Brightside Ground meant there was no play until 2pm and Derbyshire were put into bat after Gary Wilson, Captain in the absence of Billy Godleman, lost the toss.
Slater looked to take the attack to the new ball bowlers, powering Derbyshire passed 50 alongside Luis Reece (13) before both left-handers were out in the space of two overs.
First, Reece was lbw to Matthew Taylor, before the seamer bowled Slater for a well-made 45 from 60 balls.
Madsen came in and quickly set a platform for himself, striking five fours in his unbeaten 24 before bad light and rain after tea forced an early end to the day’s play with just 26 overs bowled.
The middle-order batsman is set to resume on Day Two needing a further 66 to reach 10,000 first-class runs and he will be joined in the middle by Alex Hughes, who is 10 not out overnight.
