Alex Hughes was the big winner at Friday night’s end of season Gala Dinner awards ceremony, scooping the 2017 Player of the Year.
The 25-year-old, who was awarded his County Cap last week, enjoyed his best season in a Derbyshire shirt.
He was the leading run scorer in first-class cricket hitting 800 runs, his most ever in a season, at an average of 40. He also topped the county’s List A averages and added 180 runs in T20 Blast – also a career-best tally for a season.
Wayne Madsen picked up the NatWest T20 Blast Player of the Year following his record-breaking campaign in which he scored 526 runs, the most ever by a Derbyshire player in a single season. He also took 13 wickets.
Captain Billy Godleman’s three centuries in the red-ball competition, at an average of 40 with a top-score of 156 not out, saw him pick up the Specsavers County Championship Player of the Year award.
While Ben Slater became the Royal London One-Day Cup Player of the Year for a second consecutive year after the opener led the run-scoring charts for the Club with 312 at an average of 52, with three half-centuries.
