VIDEO: Squad take session with Pro Boxer

Pushed to the limit, the squad were put through their paces in training this week by Professional Boxer Nathan Kirk.

The high-intensity fitness session was designed around elements of Box Fit to push the players to their boundaries and improve recovery rates and overall fitness.

With the season less than three months away, the players have begun more skills-based training, working on individual plans tailored around both red and white ball techniques. But by introducing a competitive element to training, Kirk believes the continued fitness work will be beneficial.

Kirk said: “The sessions are based around explosion and high-intensity and getting the muscles burnt out to the point where we’re doing forced reps and they’ve got to grit through it. Part of it is their recovery rate is going to get better as well as developing more grit and hunger.

“The boxing element brings the fun and it is easier to forget that you are training and it brings a competitive element.”

All-rounder Luis Reece added: “The sessions are tough, but it’s a nice change and something different to just running or going on the bike.

“It’s massively important to get yourself physically ready, but also mentally ready and trying to improve on aspects you want to be better at to keep progressing as a team.”
