Duanne Olivier has been added to South Africa’s squad for the last two Tests against Australia later this month.

The fast bowler, who will join Derbyshire as overseas player for the first half of 2018, could be in line to feature in his sixth Test for South Africa, after making five appearances in 2017.

The paceman has taken 17 Test wickets at an average of 23. In total, he has featured in 72 first-class matches, claiming 284 wickets at an average of 22, with 16 five-wicket hauls

Olivier has impressed in recent weeks with South Africa A and the Knights, which has earned him a call-up for the final two Tests in the four-match series.

Linda Zondi, the convener of selectors, said: “Circumstances have forced us to name a large squad at this stage so that we can cover all possible options.

“Olivier was the pick of our bowlers for South Africa A in their tour match against Australia.”

The series concludes on Tuesday 3 April, when Olivier is due to travel to The 3aaa County Ground to join Derbyshire ahead of the new season.
