Opening batsman Billy Godleman has been named as the Club’s LV= County Championship Vice Captain following a successful spell leading the side this summer.

The 26-year-old captained Derbyshire in three first-class fixtures this summer, which included the victory over Kent at Canterbury at the start of June, while Club Captain Wayne Madsen was unavailable due to injury

Godleman has enjoyed a fruitful first half to the season, scoring 442 runs in six matches at an average just under 50 and a top score of 82 not out versus Kent. His performances this summer earned him a new deal which has committed the batsman to the Club until the end of the 2016 season.

Elite Performance Director, Graeme Welch said: “Billy is currently playing the best cricket of his life. He has put in the hard work and continues to improve both as a cricketer and as a person.

“He’s become a leader amongst the team and he did a terrific job leading the side over the last month in Wayne’s absence.

“Billy will now provide excellent support to Wayne for the remainder of the four-day season as we continue to push for promotion.”
