Elite Performance Director Graeme Welch reflected on his side’s 222-run defeat to Surrey in the LV= County Championship at The 3aaa County Ground.
“It’s one of the worst days I have had in cricket. Three weeks ago we sat down and said this is the senior squad and that I expected performances from them, and it’s been a really disappointing three weeks,” said Welch.
“We have lost a cluster of wickets in this game and in other games too. We have shown a lack of fight and that’s the most disturbing thing.
“There has been a few harsh words said in the dressing room, a few things people wouldn’t have liked to hear.
“We have taken one or two of the younger players out of the firing line recently, but there will definitely be some changes for the next game.
“It has got to come from within, these lads have got everything they need to go out there and perform. They need to look at themselves in the mirror, as all of the management do every single day, and we’ll see where we go from here.
“This is where the lads need to stand up and be counted. We’re halfway through the season and we need to kick on. We have let people down.”
Derbyshire are back in home NatWest T20 Blast action on Friday 26 June when they welcome Notts Outlaws to The 3aaa County Ground for the East Midlands derby.
