Derbyshire lost to Warwickshire by an innings and 217 runs in the Second XI Championship at Hem Heath CC.

Dominic Sibley struck an unbeaten 278 to set Warwickshire Second XI on their way to an innings victory after Derbyshire had earlier been dismissed for 122 in their first innings.

Responding to 529-8 declared set by the visitors, Derbyshire were bowled out for 190 despite a well-made 63 from Callum Brodrick to give Warwickshire victory by an innings and 217 runs.

Resuming Day Two on 314-6, with a lead of 192, Sibley continued his fluent innings and soon steered the Warwickshire lead past 300.

Alfie Gleadall (2-66) bowled well, but by the time Warwickshire declared with a lead of 407, their experienced bowling unit had enough runs on the board to attack from the first over.

Anuj Dal (34) and Brodrick added 39 for the second wicket and Brodrick continued with Tom Wood (19) to guide Derbyshire past 100, but wickets fell at regular intervals and the hosts slipped to 148-7.

Gleadall (24 not out) and Will Davis (12) offered some resistance, but Alex Thomson (6-18) returned he quickly removed the tail and Derbyshire were all out for 190, losing by an innings and 217 runs.

Derbyshire return to Second XI action on Thursday 10 May with a Second XI One-Day Trophy match versus Warwickshire at Hem Heath.
