After a good start to the season, which sees Derbyshire climb to fourth in Specsavers County Championship Division Two, the focus now switches to Royal London One-Day Cup.

All-rounder Matt Critchley, who shone with the bat in the North-South series over the winter, is relishing the opportunity to focus on the white ball competition.

He said: “It should be good, obviously it comes around thick and fast but I think that’s the county schedule in general. I’m looking forward to a change of format to really kick on in the one-day competition.

“Everyone has the skills, but the change of mindset is important to find out what your game is again. I think everyone’s excited and there’s more energy around the camp for white ball cricket so it should be good fun.”

Derbyshire get their 50-over campaign underway on Thursday 17 May at Edgbaston when they face a Warwickshire outfit which will be looking to rekindle some of the form that saw them claim the title in 2016.

Critchley knows it will be tough test, but he is confident Derbyshire can get a result at Edgbaston.

He added: “It’s a tough start but we played them last week so we know all about them and what they can do, but we’ve got enough talent if we play our best cricket to get a result there.”

The 21-year old is also hoping to progress and turn his experience from the England Lions into success for Derbyshire this summer.

“Obviously the Lions experience was great but I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. The experience is always useful but this match is just another good opportunity to win a game for Derbyshire.

“To have that practice against good players in different conditions has been great for me as a young player to nail down the things that will work in games. Personally, I’m looking forward to it to try and take the experiences from the winter into the summer and do well for Derbyshire.”
