Welch names squad for East Midlands derby

Thursday 25th June 2015
Written by Danny Painter

Graeme Welch has named a 12-man squad as Derbyshire Falcons take on Notts Outlaws in the East Midlands derby on Friday night; 7pm start.

New Zealand international batsman Hamish Rutherford is set to make his first NatWest T20 Blast appearance at The 3aaa County Ground for the Falcons as they look to topple their local rivals. The Outlaws currently sit two points ahead of the Falcons going into Friday’s clash, but a win for the hosts could move them ahead of James Taylor’s side.

Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduate, Will Davis is included in a first team squad for the first time, with Billy Godleman and Greg Cork missing out from the squad that made the trip to New Road last Friday. Ben Cotton is still unavailable due to injury.

DERBYSHIRE FALCONS squad to play Notts Outlaws:

3. Wes Durston (capt)
72. Hamish Rutherford
22. Chesney Hughes
57. Shiv Thakor
77. Wayne Madsen
18. Alex Hughes
10. Scott Elstone
23. Tom Poynton
27. Tom Knight
11. Wayne White
35. Nathan Rimmington
44. Will Davis

Notts Outlaws are one place higher than the Falcons in the North Group standings after winning three and losing four of their first seven matches.

They are likely to have four England internationals in the top order in the shape of Alex Hales, Michael Lumb, James Taylor and Samit Patel.

Zimbabwe batsman Brendan Taylor also provides some international experience in the batting lineup with Australia all-rounder Dan Christian a threat after he arrived as a replacement for the outgoing Darren Sammy last week.

Their bowling attack looks set to be led by death bowling specialist Harry Gurney, who has represented England in this format, and Luke Fletcher who featured for Surrey in the LV= County Championship against Derbyshire in a loan spell earlier this week.

NOTTS OUTLAWS squad to face Derbyshire Falcons:

Ball, Carter, Christian, Fletcher, Gurney, Hales, Hilfenhaus, Lumb, Mullaney, Patel, Read, Smith, J.Taylor, Wessels, Wood
