Derbyshire’s third home game in succession sees them welcome Yorkshire Vikings to The 3aaa County Ground for the first time since July 2015.

This will be Derbyshire’s 68th scheduled List A game against Yorkshire – only Lancashire (on 74 occasions) – have been Derbyshire’s opponents more often in limited overs cricket.
Derbyshire have won 18 games, with Yorkshire winning 39, and one game tied. Five matches were designated as ‘No Result’ with four abandoned without a ball bowled.
Although limited overs cricket began in 1963, these two near-neighbours didn’t meet in this format of the game until 1969, when they played each other on two occasions. The first game was at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, and the second was the Gillette Cup Final at Lord’s. Disappointingly, Derbyshire lost both matches, but reaching the county’s first final was a significant achievement, despite the defeat to a very strong Yorkshire team which included current or future England Test cricketers, Brian Close, Phil Sharpe, John Hampshire, Richard Hutton, Don Wilson and Chris Old.
The tied fixture took place at Derby in 2008 when the sides met in the 40-over Nat West Pro40 League. Yorkshire batted first under lights and in front of the Sky television cameras and made 213-7 in a rain-reduced 34 overs.
Derbyshire’s response was patchy (14-2 and 89-4) before 18-year-old Dan Redfern announced himself to the wider cricketing world with a splendid 57 not out off 56 balls, ably supported by Tom New (28 not out) in a seventh wicket partnership of 85 – still a record for that wicket for Derbyshire against Yorkshire.
Derbyshire’s biggest margin of victory – by runs – was the 114-run win at Derby in 1997, when, batting first in a 40-over AXA Life League match, Derbyshire scored 259-2, with Chris Adams making 109 not out off 110 balls, and Vince Clarke scoring an unbeaten 77 off 68 balls.
Yorkshire’s reply was wrecked by DeFreitas and Dean who reduced the visitors to 39-4, before Andrew Harris mopped up the tail with 4-22, including the final three wickets of the game all being clean bowled.
Derbyshire’s highest team score is 334-8 at Headingley in 2017 – albeit in a losing cause – while five players have scored hundreds against the White Rose county; Wayne Madsen (112), Chris Adams (109 not out), Martin Guptill (103 not out), Kim Barnett (101) and Chris Taylor (100).
Only one bowler has taken five wickets in an innings – Colin Tunnicliffe – who took 5-24 at Derby in 1981.
