Derbyshire Second XI had to settle for a draw after controlling their Championship match with Durham at Belper.
Durham responded to Derbyshire’s mammoth 498-9, where Alex Hughes scored an unbeaten 216, with a first innings total of 294 as Shiv Thakor claimed 4-25 for the hosts, while Matt Critchley took 3-43.
With a lead of 204 runs, the follow on was enforced by Derbyshire on the morning of Day Three and Durham were soon reduced to 21-2 in their second innings as Thakor struck twice early on.
Harry White then had Stuart Poynter caught behind before the spin duo of David Wainwright (2-34) and Critchley (2-46) took two wickets apiece to give Derbyshire a chance of victory.
But Jack Burnham, who made an unbeaten 94 in the first innings, managed to see off Derbyshire’s victory charge with an unbeaten 95 as Durham closed on 207-8 with the match ending as a draw.
