Derbyshire won one and lost one of their back-to-back Second XI Twenty20 fixtures away to Durham at Burnopfield CC.
Anuj Dal hit an unbeaten 62 as Derbyshire won the opening match by five wickets with 10 balls to spare, but five wickets for Ben Whitehead (5-18) spun the hosts to a 22-run win in the final game.
James Weighell (24) and Scott Steel (23) added 41 for the third wicket after Durham won the toss and elected to bat in the first match.
Josh Coughlin top-scored with 32, but he fell to Azarullah, the seamer picking up his third wicket, and Durham posted 128-7 in their 20 overs.
Derbyshire slipped to 10-2, but Dal steadied the innings and alongside Dan Wheeldon (26 not out) and hit seven fours in his 50-ball knock to take the visitors to victory in the 19th over.
In the second of back-to-back Twenty20 matches, Durham again won the toss and elected to bat first, this time sharing a more productive 44-run stand in 5.2 overs before Sam Connors got the breakthrough.
But Durham powered on and a 50-run second-wicket partnership between McBride (42) and Steel (34) put the hosts in a good position with over eight overs to go.
Dal and McKiernan slowed the rate, but a late cameo from McCarthy took Durham to 149-7.
Whitehead consistently took wickets in the Derbyshire chase and despite 26 from Dal, the visitors lost three wickets for no runs and ultimately were unable to challenge Durham’s total, falling 23 runs short.
