The Vitality Blast is back on Wednesday with Wayne Madsen ready to defend his crown as last year’s Most Valuable Player in the domestic Twenty20 competition.

The Derbyshire batsman racked up 211 Twenty20 MVP points in 2017 and ended up 17 points ahead of Notts Outlaws’ Samit Patel who helped his side win the competition on his way to the Overall MVP prize.

Last year’s Twenty20 MVP, Madsen, blasted Derbyshire to the last-eight, smashing 526 runs in the process – including four half-centuries along the way.

He finished way clear of the pack with his explosive batting causing carnage in the group stages while also chipping in with the ball, taking 13 wickets, usually through taking the new ball.

As a 39-time hockey international for South Africa, he is able to invent strokes and manipulate the ball to go to every corner of the ground.

The group stages start on Friday and end on 17 August, the quarter-finals will take place a week later with Finals Day at Edgbaston on 15 September.
