Chesney Hughes hit a commanding 190 and Harvey Hosein added 89 as Derbyshire scored heavily on Day One of their Second XI Championship match away to MCC Young Cricketers.

The powerful left-hander scored quickly in partnerships throughout the order as Derbyshire closed on 449-8 from 102 overs.

Hughes twice build partnerships worth more than 150, first with Hosein who opened the innings and looked in good touch for his 89 from 170 balls.

The quick wickets of Hosein, Tom Wood (2) and Scott Palombo (1) left Derbyshire on 206-4, before Hughes looked to accelerate the innings alongside Ali Hassan (59).

The pair added 161 in less than 30 overs as Derbyshire regained control and built a commanding lead in the first innings of the three-day match.

Hughes was eventually out for 190 off 236 balls, including 27 fours and five sixes, departing the middle with the score 392-6 and his side firmly in control.

James Sykes added a well-made 38 as Derbyshire closed on 449-8, looking to the bowlers to do the damage on Day Two.
