Chesney Hughes hit an unbeaten 166 and Grant Thornton took three wickets as Derbyshire looked to set up a thrilling final day in their Second XI Championship match with Yorkshire at Glossop CC.
After bowling Yorkshire out for 421 to bring the close on Day One, Derbyshire set about their reply on the morning of the second day, keen to score quickly and force a result in the three-day fixture.
James Kettleborough (23) and Harvey Hosein (26) added 34 for the first wicket, before Matthew Waite struck to remove Kettleborough and James Wainman had Hosein caught to leave Derbyshire 55-2.
Hughes, in at three, set about rebuilding the Derbyshire innings and powered past 100 in partnership with Tom Wood (76).
The 27-year-old left-hander, fresh from his 190 versus the MCC Young Cricketers last week, was unbeaten on 166 from just 244 balls as Derbyshire declared on 352-4, trailing by 64, but setting up a potential result in the match.
Thornton struck early in the visitors’ second innings, removing three of the top four batsmen as Ben Birkhead retired not out on 12.
Yorkshire closed on 66-3, with a lead of 130 runs heading into an exciting final day at Glossop.
