Matt Critchley claimed career-best figures of 4-88 and there were half-centuries for Ben Slater and Wayne Madsen as Derbyshire closed with a useful lead after another entertaining day at Queen’s Park.

Critchley alongside Tony Palladino (4-33) dismantled the Northamptonshire lower order to restrict the visitors’ lead to just 29 runs at Chesterfield.

Slater scored 53 on his home ground, whilst Madsen closed on 52 not out as Derbyshire ended Day Two on 147-4, with a lead of 118 runs.
