Squad taking confidence into Foxes clash

Gary Wilson believes his Derbyshire Falcons side can take great confidence into the Vitality Blast match away to Leicestershire Foxes, following back-to-back victories over Northamptonshire.

Derbyshire travel to The Fischer County Ground to face Leicestershire Foxes on Friday 27 July aiming to claim their second win in the competition after victory away to the Steelbacks last week.

Calum MacLeod hit a blistering 104 off 61 balls and Alex Hughes claimed career-best figures of 4-42 as the Falcons ran out 31-run winners at Wantage Road.

Switching to red ball cricket, Matt Critchley (6-106) and Hamidullah Qadri (3-66) spun Derbyshire to victory over the same opposition at Queen’s Park and now Wilson wants his side to carry that momentum into the trip to Leicester.

He said: “Matt [Critchley] is a pretty confident guy which is great for us. We can throw him the ball at any time or ask him to bat and we know he’ll want to get out there and do a job.

“A word for Hamidullah Qadri too. Two young bowlers with a combined age under 40, who bowled in tandem to spin a team out and win the game. It’s a pretty special achievement.

“We’ve backed it up now with a couple of wins in a row and it’s been a good couple of games for us. Hopefully we can carry that confidence into the Leicestershire match.”

Wilson added: “We always look at the opposition, but what we did at Northampton was look at our own game.

“We played really well with the bat up front, then defended our total with the ball. So we’ll look after our own house and make sure that’s in order and hopefully we can get the result.”
