The Geoff Capes Foundation has granted £1,000 to the Cricket Derbyshire Foundation (CDF) in support of the charity’s new ActiveKids programme, which will be launched in the Derwent and Normanton wards in October.
The cheque was presented by Ranjit Banwait, President of the Geoff Capes Foundation, at the start of the CDF Walkathon in July. He then joined over 50 walkers on the 20-mile walk from Trent Bridge to The 3aaa County Ground.
Ranjit said: “The Geoff Capes Foundation has been created to provide kids with opportunities to get active, be inspired and learn more about how to live a healthy lifestyle using the power of sport.
“Geoff, himself a successful sportsman, has represented both England and Great Britain in the shot put and was twice a Commonwealth and European champion, plus also a three time Olympian. As the Foundation grows our objective is to support disadvantaged young people wherever we can make a positive difference to their lives.
“Geoff built on his sporting success and went on to run a highly-successful security business. He has now created a charitable foundation to support projects around the country and has identified the CDF ActiveKids programme as the ideal launch pad for his new charity.”
Michael Futers, Chairman of Trustees for CDF, said: “We are delighted to receive the support of Geoff Capes Foundation to help us deliver our ActiveKids programme.
“The CDF uses the power of sport to make a difference to people’s lives across Derbyshire. Together, with our planned ActiveKids programme, we will provide youngsters with an opportunity to take part in multi-sport activities and learn about healthy lifestyles and nutrition.”
