Derbyshire Falcons’ final group game of the Vitality Blast campaign against Durham Jets ended in abandonment after heavy rain fell at Emirates Riverside.
Persistent rain began to fall in the early evening, forcing players off the field during their warm-ups prior to the toss. The poor weather continued and the umpires ruled that there would be no chance of play and the match was abandoned shortly before 8pm.
The Falcons finish the Vitality Blast group campaign on 12 points and today’s washout means Alex Hughes closes with 17 wickets, an equal-record tally for the Club which he shares alongside Imran Tahir.
Wayne Madsen ends the competition as the Falcons’ leading run-scorer with 328, while Calum MacLeod registered 324 in his first campaign with the Club and Billy Godleman hit 309 at an average of 51.50.
Derbyshire travel to Hove tomorrow ahead of the return to red ball cricket on Sunday against Sussex, where Billy Godleman’s men will be aiming to aiming to replicate their heroics of 2017 when they ran out 45-run winners, largely thanks to match figures of 15-170 from Hardus Viljoen.
Six Specsavers County Championship matches remain and Derbyshire have the chance to add to their two wins in a push towards the top half of the Division Two table.
