The Derbyshire top order batted well to begin forging a lead on Day Two of the Second XI Championship match versus Leicestershire at Queen’s Park.

Leicestershire resumed on 168-6 with four wickets in hand and a first-innings lead of 10 runs and captain Sam Evans added 58 to his overnight score, eventually out for a well-made 135.

Sam Conners (4-90) returned for Derbyshire and wrapped up the tail to dismiss the visitors for 270, a lead of 112.

Under pressure, the Derbyshire top-order responded well and added 72 for the opening wicket as James Kettleborough (53) hit six fours in his half-century.

After the openers fell, Callum Brodrick (45 not out) and Tom Wood (54 not out) built an unbeaten partnership of 85 to take Derbyshire to 198-2 at the close, leading by 86 runs.
