Billy Godleman hit a well-paced 95 as Derbyshire posted 251 on Day One of the Specsavers County Championship match against Glamorgan.
Godleman notched his third half-century of the campaign on a day where he also passed 4,000 first-class runs for Derbyshire.
Gary Wilson and Matt Critchley both made 26, before a final wicket partnership of 27 between Tony Palladino (16 not out) and Ravi Rampaul (18) secured a second batting bonus point for the hosts.
After an uncontested toss, Derbyshire were put into bat first in testing conditions under the lights at The 3aaa County Ground. The visitors made the most of it as Tim van der Gugten took two of the first three wickets to reduce Derbyshire to 50-3.
Tom Lace (12) fell victim to an in-swinging delivery in the seventh over, before Wayne Madsen (7) was caught at mid-wicket by Tom Cullen off the bowling of Michael Hogan. Van der Gugten then claimed his second wicket as Alex Hughes was caught behind for nine.
Gary Wilson joined opener Godleman in the middle to rebuild the innings for the hosts as the pair brought up their half-century partnership from 81 balls.
David Lloyd came into the attack to remove Wilson lbw for 26 as Derbyshire passed the 100 mark on the stroke of lunch, taken at 102-4.
Godleman picked up from where he left off after the interval as he passed 50 shortly after lunch to record his third red-ball fifty of the campaign. Critchley also hit a quick-fire 26 before he was dismissed by Hogan in the 36th over.
Derbyshire continued to accelerate the score onto 165-5 as Godleman continued his fine form, hitting three fours in four balls to move onto 70 not out.
Harvey Hosein was then dismissed for 10, as debutant Martin Andersson came to join captain Godleman the crease. The pair brought up the 200 for Derbyshire but Andersson fell shortly after to Graham Wagg for 11.
Captain Godleman then fell to Wagg for 95, in a well-paced innings that included nine fours. The all-rounder claimed his third wicket to remove Ferguson (4) and reduce the hosts to 224-9.
Tony Palladino and Ravi Rampaul put on 27 runs for the last wicket before the latter fell to van der Gugten for 18 as Derbyshire were 251 all out.
Glamorgan openers Stephen Cook and Connor Brown negotiated the final six overs of the day before play was halted due to bad light, with the visitors 20-0; trailing by 231 runs.
