Written by Danny Painter

Derbyshire name an unchanged 14-man squad for the Specsavers County Championship match away against Northamptonshire at the County Ground, starting on Monday 10 September (10.30am start).

Tony Palladino returned career-best match figures of 10-81 – his maiden first-class 10-wicket haul – as Derbyshire beat Glamorgan by 169 runs last week at The 3aaa County Ground.

Billy Godleman top scored with 95, the highest score in the match, while Martin Andersson, on loan from Middlesex making his Championship debut, claimed 4-25 in the second innings as the hosts claimed victory inside three days.

Tom Lace and Andersson, who are both on loan, are once again available and look set to retain their places.

Young seamer Alfie Gleadall remains unavailable due to a lower back stress fracture. Luis Reece, meanwhile, is getting close to a return to action but remains unavailable due to injury.

Opposition

Northamptonshire currently sit in ninth place in Division Two with three victories this summer.

The county have lost three of their last four Specsavers County Championship games, including a 39-run defeat to Derbyshire at Chesterfield in July. Matt Critchley was the star performer in the match at Queen’s Park as the all-rounder hit 88 runs in the match before claiming his maiden 10-wicket haul.

Northamptonshire will be without Ben Duckett and Richard Gleeson for this week’s match after both recently moved Clubs, to Nottinghamshire and Lancashire respectively. All-rounder Rory Kleinveldt, meanwhile, has announced his retirement with immediate effect.

Alex Wakely is the county’s leading run-scorer with 565 runs at an average of 31.38, but no other batsman has over 500 runs this campaign.

Fast bowler Ben Sanderson has been the standout bowler for Northamptonshire taking 47 wickets at an average of 16.65, with best figures of 6-79. Brett Hutton is the next highest wicket taker with 30 at an average of 28.40.

Northamptonshire squad: To be announced.

Pre-Match Talk

Billy Godleman is hoping his side can build on the victory against Glamorgan when they travel to Northamptonshire this week.

He said: “We think the wicket will be similar at Northampton. They usually leave a bit of grass on. If it is, we’ve got a successful blueprint from this week and we will try and execute it the same.

“We want to end the season as well as we can. For the last 18 months we’ve said we want to be consistently competitive across all formats and, while we won’t win every match, we have certainly done that.”
