First XI Coach Stephen Stubbings has informed the Club of his intention to return to Australia at the end of the 2018 season.
Stubbings, who re-joined Derbyshire in 2017 to provide coaching support to the First XI, will leave the Club at the end of October. The Club will now be recruiting a Bowling Coach to join the Club’s coaching team, led by new Head of Cricket, David Houghton.
The former opening batsman enjoyed a 13-year playing career at Derbyshire between 1997 and 2009, scoring 7,557 first-class runs in 139 matches. He was capped in 2001 and was twice a winner of the Club’s Player of the Year Award.
Cricket Advisory Director, Colin Tunnicliffe said: “Steve has been a great addition to our coaching team over the last couple of years.
“He has worked incredibly hard, supporting Billy [Godleman] and the rest of the First XI, and we are all sad to see him go. Everyone at the Club wishes him well as he returns home to Australia.
“With the batting coaching resources we have with David [Houghton] and Mal [Loye], David felt it was prudent to make Steve’s replacement a Bowling Coach to provide specialist support in this area. We will be recruiting an experience coach to fill this role.”
