Chesney Hughes struck 88 for Derbyshire Second XI on Day Two of their friendly with Glamorgan at The 3aaa County Ground as Jonh Sadler’s men gained a first innings lead.

Hughes look well-set to go on and score three-figures after batting for much of the first two sessions, having begun the day unbeaten on 36 alongside Tom Wood.

Wood was first man out on Day Two for 41 but was replaced at the crease by Tom Knight who batted well for his 45 before being bowled by Bradley Wadlan.

When Hughes was eventually out for 88, it signalled a collapse that saw none of the remaining five batsman to fall reach double figures to leave Derbyshire all out for 256 having secured an 18-run lead.

Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby fast-bowling duo Harry White and Ben Cotton both took a wicket in the final session either side of a run out by Scott Elstone. Returning wicketkeeper Tom Poynton took the catches for both bowlers’ wickets after having taken four catches in the first innings.

Glamorgan opener Dan Housego, however, played well and finished the day on 68 not out in Glamorgan’s 132-3 to help them to a lead of 114 going into the final day.
