Cork in squad for East Midlands derby

Written by Danny Painter

Greg Cork is included in Derbyshire Falcons’ 13-man squad to play Notts Outlaws in the East Midlands derby at Trent Bridge tonight; 6.30pm start.

Cork recorded match figures of 8-67 for the Second XI in a three-wicket win over Kent in a three-day game earlier this week, and is now in contention to feature in his second NatWest T20 Blast fixture tonight.

The Falcons will be looking to complete a T20 double over their local rivals after Chesney Hughes (52) and Nathan Rimmington (3-24) inspired their side to a 34-run victory in the reverse fixture at The 3aaa County Ground last month.

Billy Godleman also returns to the squad for tonight’s match, with Wayne White missing out, while Ben Cotton has returned to training after missing the last month with a side strain injury.

DERBYSHIRE FALCONS squad to play Birmingham Bears:
3. Wes Durston (capt)
72. Hamish Rutherford
22. Chesney Hughes
26. Ben Slater
77. Wayne Madsen
1. Billy Godleman
18. Alex Hughes
10. Scott Elstone
57. Shiv Thakor
23. Tom Poynton
27. Tom Knight
14. Greg Cork
35. Nathan Rimmington

Opposition

Notts captain James Taylor returns from injury to lead his side tonight, but Australia bowler Ben Hilfenhaus will not feature after a hip injury ended his spell early at Trent Bridge.

The fast bowling duo of Luke Fletcher and Andy Carter also remain on the sidelines with the injuries they sustained in the LV= County Championship fixture against Worcestershire at the end of June.

England internationals Alex Hales, Michael Lumb, Samit Patel and Harry Gurney all feature in the 14-man squad, while Australia all-rounder Dan Christian is sure to be a threat.

Following their defeat to Worcestershire Rapids last time out, Notts have little room for error in their final four fixtures if they are to finish in the top four. They are two points outside the qualification places having won four and lost six so far.

NOTTS OUTLAWS squad to face Derbyshire Falcons:

Jake Ball, Dan Christian, Will Gidman, Harry Gurney, Alex Hales, Brett Hutton, Michael Lumb, Steven Mullaney, Samit Patel, Chris Read, Greg Smith, James Taylor, Riki Wessels and Sam Wood.

Derbyshire are back in action this Sunday as they take on Yorkshire Vikings in the NatWest T20 Blast at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield. The game marks the final match of the Autoworld XC90 Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council.
