The Mayor of the City of Derby, Councillor Paul Pegg, has made the final weld on the giant stumps which will signify the Club’s bid for Derby to be a host city for the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup.
Councillor Pegg visited Briggs of Burton, the stainless steel specialists who are manufacturing the stumps, on Wednesday morning to put the final touches to the giant stumps which will be installed on Friday evening. The stumps will be located at the gateway of the city on the Pentagon Roundabout.
The stumps are funded by local businesses and private donors who have each pledged £500 to become part of the #WereBackingTheBid campaign and will be involved in the development, unveiling and publicity surrounding the sculpture as well as featuring on a Partners Plaque.
The bails on the landmark set of giant stumps have been made hollow to allow them to act as a time capsule, sealed with memorabilia celebrating the heritage of the county of Derbyshire.
