In the latest edition of our #WeAreDerbyshire Stories feature, Head Groundsman Neil Godrich reveals the challenges of turning the square at The Pattonair County Ground, through to major events on the outfield in recent years.
The Cricket Derbyshire Foundation’s Oral History of Cricket in Derbyshire project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has recorded recollections from over 200 participants.
These include former and current players, and focused on audio-visual reminiscences about cricket at every level within the county, from grassroots to the Test arena.
It is this fabric of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters which all contribute greatly to make up cricket in Derbyshire.
In this thirteenth edition, Godrich also discusses the ICC Women’s World Cup and an intense six-week period of preparing international pitches in Derby.
