Tom Wood’s 117, along with half-centuries from Fynn Hudson-Prentice (74) and Connor Marshall (71 not out) helped Derbyshire to declare on 379-9 on Day Two of their Second XI Championship game against Yorkshire.
With only 13 overs played on a rain-affected day at York Cricket Club, Derbyshire knew time was of the essence and proceeded as such, scoring a total of 335 runs on Day Two before declaring to close out the day.
Yorkshire will go into bat for the first time in the game on Day Four, trailing by 379 runs.
Wood started the day on 25 not out and set about building his total. However, Leus du Plooy could not add to his overnight score, falling third ball for nought.
Hudson-Prentice came to the crease and started to build his runs quickly, scoring 74 from 77 deliveries in a 104-run stand with Wood, before being caught and bowled by James Logan.
Wood continued, despite the losses of Daryn Smit (13) and Mark Watt (27), and brought up his century in 193 balls, hitting 15 fours in the process.
Wood and Marshall’s partnership was at 72 runs when the former was given out lbw to the bowling of Matthew Fisher (2-62) for 117.
Sam Connors (1) and Ari Karvelas (1) fell in quick succession to the bowling of Mathew Pillans, taking the bowler’s figures to 4-73. This brought James Taylor in at number 11.
With the score at 304-9, Taylor (45*) and Marshall put on 75 runs in a 13-over partnership for the final wicket, before Derbyshire declared on 379 to end the second day’s play.
