There is just one month to go until explosive Vitality Blast cricket returns to Derbyshire.
Under new Twenty20 Head Coach, Dominic Cork, the Falcons will kick-off the campaign during the BRM Solicitors Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, when they will face local rivals Yorkshire Vikings at Queens Park, on Saturday 20 July.
That isn’t the only rivalry which will be renewed early in the competition, with Notts Outlaws visiting The Pattonair County Ground on Friday 26 July, the second of back-to-back local derbies at home.
Demand for tickets has been high, with big crowds and a good atmosphere expected throughout the competition, as the Falcons bring the fast-paced excitement of Twenty20 cricket back to Derbyshire.
Cork has set his sights on the knockout stages, and although he admits the competition will be fierce, he insists his side will be determined and focused to bring success for supporters.
He said: “We are the only club never to reach Finals Day, the stats are there. We can’t worry about that, it’s happened. I am quietly confident. There is work to do and it will be difficult, but I am confident that if we play to our ability we could upset quite a few people.
“When you look at all of the players we have, we have match winners. We have Wayne Madsen, we have Matt Critchley, we all saw that incredible innings towards the end at Chesterfield last year, who will ever forget that?
“I would love for, not just some of the players to be at Edgebaston, but the supporters. If they can make that trip down the A38 and have a day that they will remember, I would love that.”
