A hard-fought 29 from Harvey Hosein couldn’t prevent Derbyshire from defeat to league-leaders Lancashire on Day Three of the Specsavers County Championship game at The Pattonair County Ground.
Five wickets from Graeme Onions (5-38) and four from James Anderson (4-29) saw the hosts dismissed for 84, with Lancashire securing a ten-wicket win in the morning session.
The overnight pairing of Alex Hughes and Hosein added 40 to the score before the former was caught behind by Dane Vilas off the bowling of James Anderson.
The England seamer struck later in the same over to remove Critchley (2) lbw, before Saqib Mahmood had Luis Reece (0) caught by Keaton Jennings in the slips, after the Lancashire opener had dropped Hughes earlier in the morning.
Anderson claimed his fourth wicket of the innings when Logan van Beek flash a ball to gully, which was caught by Jones and left Derbyshire 67-8, still trailing by 16.
Hosein continued to score, making his way to 29 before being caught behind by Vilas off the bowling of Onions, while Ravi Rampaul followed soon after, bowled by Onions for two.
Lancashire needed one run to win, and Jennings’ four off the first ball confirmed victory for the visitors, who remain top of the Specsavers County Championship Division Two.
Derbyshire are next in four-day action against Middlesex at The Pattonair County Ground, starting on Sunday 30 June.
